How it works

From “I need a job” to your first shift

TaskTeens handles the routing: every application goes straight to the right employer's dashboard, and every decision comes straight back to you.

For teens

  1. Step 1

    Create your profile

Add your skills, availability and how you get around. No home address, no Social Security number — ever.

  2. Step 2

    Find local work

Filter by city, schedule, pay and age. Every listing shows only the city or neighborhood, never an exact address.

  3. Step 3

    Apply in minutes

One form, sent straight to the employer's dashboard. You get a confirmation email right away.

  4. Step 4

    Track every update

Get notified when your application is viewed, when an interview is requested, and when a decision is made.

Create a teen account

For employers

  1. Step 1

    Set up your profile

Individual or business. Tell teens who you are and request a profile review for the Verified badge.

  2. Step 2

    Post a clear listing

Pay, schedule, age, transportation and responsibilities — up front. Listings are reviewed before going live.

  3. Step 3

    Review applicants

Applications arrive in your dashboard automatically. Filter by status, add private notes, request interviews.

  4. Step 4

    Hire safely

Meet in public or over video, welcome a parent or guardian, and follow our conduct rules.

FAQ

Questions from teens, parents and employers

Can't find what you need? Email us — a real person reads every message.

Who can use TaskTeens?

Teens ages 14–19 who live in or near Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito and the surrounding East Bay can create a worker account. Families, individuals and small businesses in the area can create an employer account. Minimum ages are set per listing and by platform rules that administrators can configure.

Does it cost anything?

Teens never pay to create an account or apply. This early version of TaskTeens has no payments or fees built in; any future employer pricing would be announced before it takes effect.

Does TaskTeens run background checks on employers?

No. TaskTeens does not run background checks. Employer profiles show separate indicators — email confirmed, phone confirmed, address reviewed and manually reviewed — so you can see exactly which steps were completed. None of these is a background check or a guarantee. A parent or guardian approves every job before it is confirmed, and you should always follow our safety guidelines.

Do I need a work permit?

It depends on your age, the kind of work and who is hiring. TaskTeens doesn't decide that for you. Ask your school's work-permit office or check the California Department of Industrial Relations. The application form asks for your status so employers know where things stand.

What personal information do employers see?

Only what you put in an application for their job: your name, age range, city, the contact email and phone you choose, and your answers. Your home address, school schedule and profile are never shown publicly.

How do employers get my application?

Automatically. When you press Submit, your application goes straight to that employer's dashboard and they get an email. You'll get a confirmation and a notification every time they update your status.

What if something feels wrong?

Stop, leave if you are somewhere unsafe, and tell a trusted adult. Use the Report button on any listing or the Report a Concern page. In an emergency, call 911.
